How do I add, edit and remove Links within text elements?

In addition to being able to add Links to whole text elements, you can also add them to portions of text within the element. The portion of text with applied Links will appear underlined and in color, and if the Link is applied to empty spaces, those spaces are indicated by an underline.

To add Links within text elements:

  1. Open the text element for editing by double-clicking the element.
  2. Select the portion of text for which you wish to add a Link.
  3. Select Links from the Interactions tab on the Authoring Tool Ribbon.
  4. Select the type of Link you would like to add.

    Link to URL:

The Link to URL right fly-out will appear. Here you may add a Title and Description for the URL, as well as select the Protocol (http://, https://, ftp://, mailto:, or Custom) and Target (Modal, or New Window), and of course, add the Address.
Below the Address field is a "Address is a website" checkbox. Select this option if you want an inline preview of this link in the Course Resources.
If you want the link excluded from the resources entirely, select the Exclude from Resources checkbox.
Select Preview, to see the URL in a new window.
Select Update to accept your changes.

    Link to File:
The Link to a Library File right fly-out will appear.
Select the Select a File from Library button to open the Media Library. Here you can choose the desired file, and select Insert.
Choose whether you want the file to Open In a New Window or in a Modal. Select Update to accept the file.

Note: Link to Page is not available for use within text elements. If you require a portion of your text to Link to another page in your course, it is recommended that you place a Hotspot element over the portion of text and add a "Link to Page" Interaction to the Hotspot. See the, How do I insert a Hotspot to add interactions? article for more information.

To edit a Link within a text element:

  1. Open the text element for editing by double-clicking the element.
  2. Select the portion of text which contains the Link you wish to edit.
  3. Select Links from the Interactions tab on the Authoring Tool Ribbon.
  4. Select Edit Link. This opens the appropriate Edit Link Properties right fly-out where you can make your changes, and select Update.

To delete a Link within a text element:

  1. Open the text element for editing by double-clicking the element.
  2. Select the portion of text containing the Link you wish to delete.
  3. Select Links from the Interactions tab on the Authoring Tool Ribbon.
  4. Select Remove Link. The select text will no longer appear colored and underlined.
