Why can't I layer an element over my embedded video?

You cannot layer other elements (for example, a text panel or shape element) over top of an embedded video object or media stream.

The current versions of Flash Player 10.x uses a new technology called “Stage Video” that does not allow video to be embedded as opaque or transparent (which is required to control video’s layer order).

Adobe made this change because HD (high definition) video requires higher performance to render/play. Stage Video enables a direct pipe to the computer’s video card hardware (as opposed to the previous embed methods which use the CPU).

This limitation applies to any video played in HTML using Flash, regardless of the authoring tool.

At this time, Claro does not enforce this for video embedded in a course that is a local asset. YouTube, Vimeo, TED, and other streaming providers will all embed the Stage Video preferred method.
