Case Study Scoring

I'm creating a module with no posttest, however, I have a case study with 3 inline quiz questions from the Engage tab. (1) Can I use the inline question variable option to assign the score for each inline question? (2) Can I have  the score for each inline case study question display on an end of module screen?  If so, how do I set the inline question variable score and show the learners results on the end of module summary screen.

Thanks for asking, here's how to do this.

For each question, select the question element on the page then go to the Options tab. There, select the Variable button, and pin the screen that appears set a new variable, for example, QuestionOne.

Currently there is an issue with the Engage questions resetting their results when you leave the page, so for now you need to do one additional step. On the page for each question, you'll set a second variable based on the Engage question's score:

  • On each of the pages with a question, select the Interact tab >> Triggers >> Variable is Changed.
  • At the top of the panel that opens, select the variable for the question (eg, QuestionOne) and select Greater Than and then type 0 into the value field on the right end of the panel. Select Next.
  • On the left menu, select Functions and Variables. Select Set Variable, then select Next.
  • On the right-side panel that opens, confirm that the Operator is set to Greater Than (> in the drop-down list.) In the second Variable drop down list, select New Variable, and set that new variable up with a related-but different name, maybe Q1. Once the variable is set up and chosen, you'll now see a drop down list for Operator (leave that as 0) and a field for Value. Click into the Value field to enter text, then right-click and you will see the Variables menu appear. You can select Custom >> Project >> QuestionOne. Below that, check the box for Fire Once per Project.

Now you can display the value of the variable Q1 in any text element on any page, including a text element on a Module Summary Screen. To do this, click into the text element then on the tool bar, select the three-dot menu on the right end then select Variables. Then select Custom >> Project >> Q1.

I've created an example of this in action, in addition to showing the score for each question on a Module summary screen it also shows the scores on the last content page. You can view it here: https://share.cda.dominknow.one/934f0ed62cf21edb17852afcf128a8ad/b83ead8a-4903-34d6-b5cc-3469a8a8ce9c/web

I'll also email you with a link to import this sample into your own site so you can see how it was set up.
