I am currently working on a project for a client and I am wondering if Claro works on an ipad? is it legible? I understand it is not responsive.

For sure, Claro content will work on iPads. Both Claro and Flow produce HTML-5 content, so both authoring options are viewable on any device with a browser.

And you are correct, Claro isn't responsive - so a Claro page will fill the width of the browser on the iPad. Compared to a laptop or desktop computer, the Claro content will obviously look smaller but in most cases on tablets like the iPad it will still be viewable/readable. Certainly not as much potential for being "too small" like it might be on a smartphone.

Here are some tips you might find helpful:

  • The Nova player theme for Claro content has a responsive behavior - on smaller browser widths it switches from top and boottom bars to side-based navigation to allow for better use of the smaller display size.
  • You can preview both Claro and Flow content on your tablet or any other mobile device as you work - on the View tab there's an On Device option in the Preview section. This opens a panel with a QR code - just point your device's camera at the QR code and your project will open in a Full Project Preview on your device.  Here's an article with more information about all the Previewing options.
  • Avoid using very small text on your pages, and consider going up in size generally. You can do this by setting a larger default font size in the Theme design.

For Claro content it will shrink to fit, so you need to design with that in mind. For iPads and even iPad minis you should be fine, as long as your font sizes aren't too small to begin with.  Several clients that use Claro do run it on iPads too.

As an alternative you cna also use Flow which is fully responsive and doesn't "shrink to fit" but responds based on screen width, like a modern web page.
