Emma Hewlett is the Lead Accessibility Author for Larmer Brown. She has a Professional Certificate in Accessibility and Universal Design.

This course will introduce delegates to the theories and definitions underpinning accessible content design, as well as the standards and regulations that must be followed to create WCAG compliant content. It is recommended that delegates complete a short, self-paced 
Variables Basics for Accessibility eLearning course prior to attending this instructor-led training. 

Each session will include a series of short demonstrations of an accessible eLearning course created by Larmer Brown, teaching delegates how to apply WCAG 2.1 and WCAG 2.2 standards to their course design and development. The importance of assistive technology in the design and quality assurance stages
of development will also be covered, providing delegates with additional tools and resources to support the development of accessible eLearning content. 

Sessions one and two will end with a task for delegates to complete prior to commencement of the next session. These tasks will allow delegates to practise elements of their learning in the dominKnow | ONE tool. One-to-one support will be available between sessions as required.

Additional resources and links will be shared so delegates can continue their learning outside of the virtual sessions. These will be
included in the PowerPoint slides and will be shared before each session, along with a recording. 

Once they have completed the three virtual sessions, delegates will have access to a self-paced knowledge base within dominKnow I ONE. This knowledge base will allow delegates to consolidate their learning and will provide them with performance support as they continue to develop accessible eLearning content.

After completing this course, you will be able to:

• Understand the importance of accessible design and WCAG
• Learn how assistive technologies are used in eLearning
• Provide alternative ways for learners to access text and multimedia
• Create a logical reading order for assistive technology users
• Design and test for compliant colour and text
• Create and test content that can be navigated by keyboard
• Create content that allows learners to control how they experience a page
• Create content that is simple to navigate
• Understand the importance of accessible language in eLearning
• Use templates for predictable eLearning 
• Create content that supports users to correct mistakes
• Learn how to use a screen reader to test that the purpose of interactive items is clear
• Learn how to start your own internal testing

Students must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Experience with dominKnow | ONE / Completed standard dominKnow | ONE training.
• Proficiency using a Web browser
• Basic Windows/Mac knowledge, including the ability to:
  • Launch applications using the Start menu
  • Use the taskbar to switch between Windows applications
  • Use Windows Explorer, to navigate the file structure, change the view of file listings, move and copy files, and create new folders (or directories)
  • Copy and paste text

While the Accessibiltiy principles and examples will be presented and practiced in a Flow project, as responsive content lends itself towards accessibility needs better, most aspects taught in class can be applied to Claro projects. In Claro the key accessibility difference is in page order, which the instructor can cover if you have questions. With Flow and Claro, virtually all actions, triggers and features are identical, with the primary differences being in how pages are navigaed, designed and operate.
