Accessible e-learning is becoming a vital aspect of a well-rounded diversity strategy for government, corporations, and education institutions. In this class, you will learn about Section 508 and WCAG accessibility standards, how they relate to each other, and how they relate to your accessibility strategy. You will also leverage the dominKnow | ONE features and development best practices to design, develop, and test your e-learning courses for standards compliance. The goal is to produce accessible courses that are robust, interactive, and media-rich.

About the Instructor

Eddie Javor has developed hundreds of e-learning modules and has served as an instructor for 5 years. Having earned his bachelor’s in graphic design at the University of Georgia, Mr. Javor has studied graphical user interface design and the progressing trends of technology-based learning. Mr. Javor brings real world experiences and industry best practices for e-learning development to the classroom.

Objectives

After completing this course, you will be able to:

  • Describe the roles accessible e-learning courseware can play in a compliance and diversity strategy
  • Describe the relationship between Section 508 and the WCAG standards for accessibility
  • Leverage dominKnow features that support accessibility
  • Design and plan e-learning courses with accessibility in mind
  • Develop interactive, media-rich e-learning that aligns with accessibility best practices and standards
  • Test your e-learning courses for compliance

Prerequisites

Students must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Experience with dominKnow | ONE / Completed standard dominKnow | ONE training.
  • Proficiency using a Web browser
  • Basic Windows/Mac knowledge, including the ability to:
    • Launch applications using the Start menu
    • Use the taskbar to switch between Windows applications
    • Use Windows Explorer, to navigate the file structure, change the view of file listings, move and copy files, and create new folders (or directories)
    • Copy and paste text

Claro or Flow?

While the Accessibiltiy principles and examples will be presented and practiced in a Flow project, as responsive content lends itself towards accessibility needs better, most aspects taught in class can be applied to Claro projects. In Claro the key accessibility difference is in page order, which the instructor can cover if you have questions. With Flow and Claro, virtually all actions, triggers and features are identical, with the primary differences being in how pages are navigaed, designed and operate.
