Easily set assessment behavior to let learners change responses then submit

(This feature was added in our 7.4.6.1 release)

In dominKnow | ONE the default test behavior is that the learner submits a response for each question and the question is removed from the test. Once all questions have been answered the test closes and the score is calculated.

There are settings available, though, if you want to allow the learner to review their responses before submitting all of the questions to have the score calculated.

The Learner Experience

When the learner starts the test, a menu is open showing a list of the questions.

Instead of a Submit button there is a Next Question button with a Menu icon. If the learner closes the Menu using the X they can reopen it using the Menu button beside the Next Question button.

As the learner works through the questions, circle icons indicate a status for each question:

  • Empty for a question that hasn’t been viewed
  • Half-filled for a question that has been viewed but does not have a response
  • Filled for a question that has been viewed and has a response

When the learner has provided a response to all questions, the Next button becomes a Submit button. The Submit button on the menu will also become active.

The learner can still use the menu to select any question to review it and change the response.

When they are ready, the learner selects either Submit option.

If they haven’t responded to all questions they will be prompted about this status.

If they have provided a response for all question they will be prompted with a confirmation.

Reviewing the Test

When reviewing the test, the menu icons show:

  • A checkmark for correct questions
  • A line for partially correct questions
  • An X for incorrect questions

Learners can select questions on the menu to review specific questions or use the Next button below the question to review the questions in sequence

When they are finished they can select Exit Review on either the question page or the menu to close up the review mode.

Turning the Allow Test Review Feature On

The Publishing profile has two settings for this feature:

  • Allow Review and Changing of Answers turns the feature on
  • Force Sequential sets the behavior so the learner must complete the questions in sequence. They can review any questions once the question has been viewed. If this setting is not selected, the Learner can use the menu to view the questions in any order to provide responses.

These settings are available for both pre- and post-testing and can be set differently for each context.

Controlling How the Menu Displays the Questions

You can control how the Assessment Menu displays the questions.

The Assessment section on the Theme Designer's Styles tab has an Assessment Outline where you can choose to show:

  • No titles
  • Page Titles
  • Question Heading
  • Question Body

This setting is available in all Themes that support assessments/testing.
