Quickly and easily send and receive Project translations right from within dominKnow | ONE

Our AI Translator is an opt-in feature service.

It dramatically reduces the turnaround time for translating a Project, typically returning a full translation in a few minutes.

You can:

  • Configure which languages go to the AI Translator and which will be a manual translation process
  • Set up a custom Terminologies file to ensure that specific terms and phrases are always translated (or not translated) a specific way.

And after that the AI Translator is seamlessly incorporated into dominKnow | ONE's exiting Project translation workflows.

NOTE: The AI Translator service is off by default in client sites.

If you're interested in learning about the service please reach out to your Account Manager contact.

Configuring Translation Language Settings

The 7.4.6.1 feature update included a new feature to allow administrators to control some translation-related settings, including some settings not specific to the AI Translator.

Please review this article to understand the basics when the AI Translator feature service is NOT enabled:

>> Configuring Translation Language Settings

When AI Translation is enabled these additional functions are available:

  • Admins can set the translation process to be AI (if the language is supported by the service) or manual
  • When the AI toggle is on, the Target column allows you to pick the target language in the AI service, for example if the exact language isn’t offered you can choose an alternate. For languages set as Manual, the Targets column continues to set the export file type for download.

Setting up your organization’s custom terminologies file

For the AI Translator service, you can set up a custom terminologies list to control how certain words or phrases are translated or not translated. You do this by downloading the default Terminologies Template, making edits then uploading the file back into dominKnow | ONE.

To download the default Terminologies template:

  • Select the Application Menu
  • Select Organization
  • Select Languages
  • Select Terminologies in the upper left corner
  • On the Configure Terminologies dialog panel, select Template to download the default (blank) terminologies file

The template is a csv file which you can open and edit in Excel.

The languages are listed across the top.

Simply add in any words or terms that you wish to control into the respective columns. There is no limit to the number of terms/phrases you can include.

Leaving a field blank allows the AI to provide a translation, for example if you want to control/set the translation for only a subset of languages.

    When completed, upload the file.

When you need to edit or update the file, choose the Terminologies button to download it again.

    NOTE:

In some context-based cases the AI will still translate the identified words/phrases, over riding the Custom Terminologies file.

This could happen if the other words in the surrounding content indicate a context that doesn't reflect the controlled usage. For example if the word you are controlling is "Extreme" to keep it always spelled in English with a capital E because it is the company name:

    • In the sentence "Here at Extreme we have the following policies" the translation will always adhere to the Custom Terminology file will bo followed
    • In the sentence "Extreme behaviour will not be tolerated." the word Extreme may be translated (over riding the Custom terminologies file) because there is context to indicate that this usage isn't for the company name.

Translating to Add More Languages into the Same Project

Any languages set for AI translation are identified by the sparkle icon.

When the Export button is selected, the XLIFF files are sent to the AI service automatically

The List Translation feature shows status – In Progress, then Complete. Authors will also receive email updates on status when the translation is started and once completed.

Non-AI languages will still download as manual packages.

Author Previewing for Projects with More than One Language

Authors can do a Compare Preview, set one side to the first/original language and set the second side to the translated Language.

Reviewing for Projects with More than One Language

Reviewers can choose languages from the review toolbar.

Translating to make a Duplicate and do an Exact Translation

    For this process:

    • Select Application Menu
    • Select Current Project
    • Select Duplicate and Export for Translation

If the language is set to use the AI service, the exported package is sent and returned automatically.

The author will receive email updates on statuses when the translation is started and once completed.

While the translation is in progress, the Project will be set to Pending Translation status, and not be available in the Project Browser.

The translation file will be imported back into the Project automatically when the AI translation is completed and the Project will be taken out of Pending Translation status, and can now be found on the Project Browser.

Translating to do Localization/Changes Before Translating

For this process from the Browse Projects panel:

    • Select the Project
    • Select the Actions button
    • Select Duplicate for Translation

The Project will be duplicated and set to the selected language.

Authors can then complete any needed changes.

When ready to do the export:

    • Select the Application Menu
    • Select Current Project
    • Select Export Translation file
    • A dialog box is shown to confirm

If an AI-supported language was selected when you duplicated the Project the file will be sent to the AI service automatically; otherwise a manual download will happen.

AI translation files will be imported back into the Project automatically when completed.
