Export Translation from dominKnow ONE

In this first step you will select the Export for Translation option for all the desired languages. This will create your translation file(s) to which you will add your translation(s) and then import back into the project to create a single project that contains multiple translations. 

Step 1


Select Translate

From the Home ribbon selecting translate will enable you to export or import your desired translation(s) into your existing project.

Select Export Trasnlation File(s)

Step 3


Select the Languages selection box

Step 4


Type: french and press Enter
 

Type in the language for which you wish to translate the project.


Step 5


Select French - France : Francais - France (fr-FR)

Select the desired language from the search results.


Step 6


Click on Export

You can search for additional languages if you wish to create multiple translation exports. For Google Translate, leave the file format set to Excel. In many cases you can turn off the Page Preview Links and Authoring Metadata, as they are typically not needed in an automatic translation.


Step 7


The selected language(s) will download.

If you selected multiple languages you will need to unzip the package before uploading the files for translation.

Once the translation files have been downloaded you can then access your translation service to create translate the content.

Translate with Google Translate

You will utilize Google Translate to create a translation of your project content. Google translate will auto translate all aspects of the Excel file you provide. Once it has been translated you will copy the translations into the original translation file you uploaded to Google Translate.

NOTE: Google Translate supports translation of documents up to 10 MB in any of these formats: .docx, .pdf, .pptx, .xlsx. PDF files must be 300 pages or less. If larger sizes are needed, their API must be utilized.

Navigate to https://translate.google.com

Once you are at the main Google Translate Interface you can begin the next steps in your translation.

Select Documents

Step 3


On the left side (source language) select page tab: English

Although Detect Language will likely work in all cases, you can select the source language to be sure.

On the right side (target language) press the down arrow button: More target languages

If the desired language isn't available on the quick selection list, selecting the drop down will provide access to all available languages.


Step 5


Type: french and press Enter

Note: Google Translate does NOT support document translate for all languages. If you select a language and later the translate button is greyed out, look for a notice that the selected language is not supported for document translate.


Step 7


Click: Browse your files

Alternatively you can drag and drop the translation file onto the Drag and drop cloud icon.

Select file: 20250404045512_Protecting_Information_Security_and_Privacy_(102998)_fr-FR.xlsx

Access the location where your dominKnow | ONE translation files have been downloaded and / or unzipped and select the file to be translated.


Step 9


Click on Open

Press button: Translate

Note: Google Translate does NOT support document translate for all languages. If you select a language and the translate button is greyed out, look for a notice that the selected language is not supported.


Step 11


Press button: Download translation

This will provide you a new file and your operating system will give it a similar but different name than the original file name.

Now that the translation file has been updated, you are ready to import it into dominKnow | ONE.

Copy and Pasting the Translation into the Correct Format

In this step you will copy and past the translations provided into the file you exported from dominKnow | ONE. For illustration purposes, we have started these steps with opening both the original translation file from dominKnow | ONE and the translated file from Google Translate. The Excel file on the left is the one translated by Google Translate and the one on the right is the original export from dominKnow | ONE.

Step 1


Select F3 in the translated text in column F. 

Google translate will translate all text in the Excel that was uploaded. It will automatically ignore any HTML tags. For your translation you will need to copy the primary column.


Step 2


Click plus Shift  on F447 to select all transalated rows. 

In this case the last row is 447. Do not selected past this row


Step 3


Select Ctrl + c

This will copy all the selected items.


Step 4


Click on G3 in the original exported translation file.

You are selecting the first row in the column where the translations belong for proper import into dominKnow | ONE. In some cases this may not be G3, so double check.


Step 5


Press Ctrl + v

This will paste all the translated text into the correct column in the original translation export file.


Step 6


On the left, in the Excel translated from Google Translate, select page tab: Links

In some of your projects you will have additional sheets in your Excel file for special types of content. This includes such items as Links, Variables, Glossary Terms, and References. You will need to repeat these same steps for any additional tabs.


Step 7


On the right, in the originally Excel exported from dominKnow | ONE, select page tab: Links 

Step 8


Click on C3 on the left Excel.

You are selecting the first element that has been translated.


Step 9


Click on C4 with modifiers: Shift

Select all the text that has been translated. The step is similar to step you completed on the first tab.


Step 10


Press Ctrl + c

To copy all elements that are selected.


Step 11


Select D3

Select the first column and row in the translated text column into which you will paste the content.


Step 12


Press Ctrl + v

This will paste the translated content into the import file.


Step 13


Press button: Save

Once the original file is updated, you are ready to import it into dominKnow | ONE.

Import Translation into dominKnow | ONE

In this step you will import the translated file(s) into dominKnow | ONE and can then begin your review.

Click on Translate in the Home Ribbon

Click on Import Translation File(s)

Click on Browse

Select text field: 20250404045512_Protecting_Information_Security_and_Privacy_(102998)_fr-FR.xlsx

If you have translated your project into multiple languages, first select all the translated files and then zip the file and use the zipped file in this step.


Step 5


Click on Open

Step 6


Click on Done.

The updated project will open when done.


Step 7


Click on Preview -> Compare

This will open a full project preview with a side by side preview.


Step 8


In the preview on the left, click on French - France

This will change the project view on the left to use the French translation.


Step 9


Steps completed

While you don't need to use the Compare preview, it does provide a handy side by side view when you need to see a direct comparison between two languages.
