Export Translation from dominKnow ONE

In this first step you will select the Export for Translation option for all the desired languages. This will create your translation file(s) to which you will add your translation(s) and then import back into the project to create a single project that contains multiple translations. 

Step 1


Select Translate

From the Home ribbon selecting translate will enable you to export or import your desired translation(s) into your existing project.

Select Export Translation File(s)

Step 3


Select the Languages selection box

Step 4


Type: french and press Enter
 

Type in the language for which you wish to translate the project.


Step 5


Select French - France : Francais - France (fr-FR)

Select the desired language from the search results.


Step 6


Click on Export

You can search for additional languages if you wish to create multiple translation exports. For Google Translate, leave the file format set to Excel. In many cases you can turn off the Page Preview Links and Authoring Metadata, as they are typically not needed in an automatic translation.


Step 7


The selected language(s) will download.

If you selected multiple languages you will need to unzip the package before uploading the files for translation.

Once the translation files have been downloaded you can then access your translation service to create translate the content.

Translate Excel Content

In the next steps you will utilize the plugin Translator for Excel: Sheets Translator. You will use this translator to translate the text in your export and then copy and paste the translations into the correct column.

 

This scene starts with the file you downloaded in the previous step open in Excel.

Press button: Show Translator for Excel

This will launch the Sheets Translator application in the right panel.


Step 2


Click on the drop down arrow in the Original language selector box.

You can keep the Auto Detect, but if you want to be sure, switch to the base language.

Selected list item: English

Step 4


Click on the drop down arrow in the Target language selector box.

Step 5


Click on the scroll bar, or drag until the desired language is available.

All the target languages are written in the target language. In this example we are looking for German, but spelled Deutsch.

Finish drag and drop when Deutsch is present

Selected list item: Deutsch

This is German.


Step 8


Click on the down arrow in the Translate selected column.

Click on F

Step 10


Click on Add a column option.

This will provide a translated column you can copy from and then simply remove.

Click on Start Translating

The translation will begin to process.

Click F3

In the newly created column select the first translated cell.

Press button: Page down

Scroll down to the bottom of the document.

Click on F329 with modifiers: Shift

This will select all the translated text in the column.

Press Ctrl + c

To copy the contents to your clipboard.

Click on H3

Step 18


Press Ctrl + v

This will paste all of the translations into the correct column.

The translated text is now in the correct location.

Click on F column.

You are now going to remove the extra column.

Right click on F

Select menu item: Delete

Repeat these steps for any other Sheets.

In most exports there will be additional Excel sheets for other elements such as pop ups, variables, and glossaries. Repeat these same steps for the remaining elements which will require translation.

Press button: Save

Now that the translation file is ready, you can import it into dominKnow | ONE.

Import Translation into dominKnow | ONE

In this step you will import the translated file(s) into dominKnow | ONE and can then begin your review.

Click on Translate in the Home Ribbon

Click on Import Translation File(s)

Click on Browse

Select text field: 20250404045512_Protecting_Information_Security_and_Privacy_(102998)_fr-FR.xlsx

If you have translated your project into multiple languages, first select all the translated files and then zip the file and use the zipped file in this step.

Click on Open

Click on Done.

The updated project will open when done.


Step 7


Click on Preview -> Compare

This will open a full project preview with a side by side preview.


Step 8


In the preview on the left, use the language selector and click on French - France

This will change the project view on the left to use the French translation.

Steps completed

While you don't need to use the Compare preview, it does provide a handy side by side view when you need to see a direct comparison between two languages.
