Transcripts can help improve the accessibility of the content you create in dominKnow | ONE

In dominKnow | ONE you can add a transcript to audio files, video files and Pages.

We’ve created this sample to help you understand the learner experience for each of these.

>> Audio, Video and Page Transcripts Example

Here's how to work with each of these transcript options when authoring.

Adding a Transcript to an Audio file

When you upload an audio file to add it to a page, you are presented with the Edit Asset panel.

To add a transcript simply add the transcript text to the Transcript field. You can format the text as needed.

Adding text to the Transcript field automatically activates the display of the Transcript button on the audio player for the learner. NOTE: Authors will see the Transcript button on the audio player while editing the page whether a transcript has been added or not.

To edit the Transcript at any time:

  • Select the audio element on the page
  • Select the purple Edit (gear) icon to open the Edit Asset panel

Learner Experience

When the learner selects the Transcript button, the audio transcript will be displayed in a Pop Up modal window over the main page.

Adding a Transcript to a Video File

For a video file, a transcript is one way to improve accessibility.

Generally, a Closed Captioning  (CC) file is a better experience than a transcript for a video file. However, if you can’t create a CC file a transcript is at least an improvement over no CC or transcript at all.

Adding a Transcript to a video file is similar to adding a transcript to an audio file.

When you upload a video file to add it to a page, you will be presented with the Edit Asset panel.

To add a transcript simply add the transcript text to the Transcript field. You can format the text as needed.

Adding text to the Transcript field automatically activates the display of the Transcript button on the video player for the learner.

To edit the Transcript at any time:

  • Select the video element on the page
  • Select the purple Edit (gear) icon to open the Edit Asset panel

Learner Experience

When the learner selects the Transcript button, the video transcript will be displayed in a Pop Up modal window over the main page.

Adding a Transcript to a Page

A good use case for adding a transcript to a page is if you have an audio narration file but choose to not have the audio player shown to the learner (and as a result the learner can’t access the transcript button on the audio player).

To add a Transcript to a page, select the Page Transcript tab below the Stage.

Adding a page transcript will automatically enable the transcript button on the Project Player. (The button will be greyed out for any pages where no Page transcript is available.)

Learner Experience

Different Players will display the Page Transcript on either the left or right-side of the page.

NOTE: Not all Themes (Project Players) have a Transcript button option.

Adding a Show Transcript button to any page

You can add a button to any Page to show the page Transcript to the learner.

With the Ribbon toggled on (step 1 in the image below), select the Insert tab (step 2) then select Buttons (step 3).

In the Player Controls section are two button options for Show Transcript (step 4). You can choose a text-labelled button or an icon-labelled button.

These buttons are “pre-wired” with the Show Transcript action. You simply add the button to the page, you don’t need to set up the Show Transcript action.
The Show Transcript button is an option for displaying the Page Transcript to learners in Themes that don’t have built-in Transcript buttons.

The Show Transcript action is also available as one of the Player Control options when setting up actions. This means you can add a custom Show Transcript action to any element on a page, not just a button.

Learner Experience

When the Learner selects the Show Transcript button, the Page Transcript is shown in a modal window over the main page.
