Importing Test Questions via Excel File

Quickly batch add test questions to Claro or Flow Projects

You can import test questions into a Claro or Flow project using the pre-formatted dominKnow | ONE Excel template.

The template supports importing:

  • True or False
  • Multiple Choice
  • Multiple Pulldowns
  • Fill in the Blanks

Downloading the Excel Template

Open any Project and select the Application Menu (1).

Select Import (2) then select Test Questions from Excel (3).

On the Import Questions From Excel panel that opens, select Click here to download the template (4).

Working with the Template

The Template has Sheets for:

  • Instructions - Instructions on how to use the template
  • Settings - Macro-level settings for the Test behaviour

There are separate sheets for adding:

  • True or False
  • Multiple Choice
  • Multiple Pulldowns
  • Fill in the Blanks questions

There is also a Sheet for Options. Do not edit or change the Options sheet as it is used to populate pulldowns in the question sheets.

The template is set up for 100 questions of each type by default. To add questions beyond the provided 100 rows be sure to copy an empty row and paste it so you get the related pulldown selectors. Rows that you don't need can remain in the template, the import will not include data for any row that has a blank question title.

Required columns are shown in RED. The red columns in the choices for multiple choice type questions do not need all 8 choices supplied, but they do require at least one.

The Description and Tag columns are used to add extra metadata about your question and are used in the authoring area of the system. They are not published or required.

Opening for questions is optional and typically is used for the question introduction, ex: In the following question pick all that apply.

Each question has feedback options, depending on the question type there may be more or less. These are optional. If you want to have the same feedback for all questions you must copy/paste the feedback into each question.

Once the import is completed you can change any settings or data easily in dominKnow | ONE.

Important Notes:

  • For international text, make sure this Excel file is, and remains, Unicode.
  • Make sure you do not add or change the heading row (Row 1) on each of the sheets.
  • You can shrink columns that you don't need to work with in the sheets but DO NOT delete the columns as this will invalidate the import.

Uploading the Excel File to Import Your Questions

Open the Project where you wish to import the questions and select the Application Menu (1).

Select Import (2) then select Test Questions from Excel (3).

On the Import Questions From Excel panel that opens, choose an Import Option (4):

  • Insert the questions in the current Module: This will create a new empty learning object (LO) within the current module and add the questions to that LO.
  • Insert the questions in the current Learning Object: This will attach the questions to the current LO.

Select Upload (5), then browse to find and choose your edited and template file then click Open.

Select the Import From Excel (6) button. The questions will now be imported to your project.
