Tips for controlling the display and design of Sections with Dividers

When you are adding Sections to a Flow page, there are several options which add a Section as a top or bottom divider including:

  • Decorative Heading on the Add Your First Section options on a blank page
  • The Section Dividers with Text, Top Section Dividers and Bottom Section Dividers under Layout Tools and Decorations on the Add to your Page panel (All Sections tab)

These options add a Section with a top or bottom decoration that is a shaped extension of the Section's background fill color.

You can use them on their own or you can use them to start a new Section to add more content.

They offer some nice design options beyond just straight-edged Sections.

NOTE: Because the decorations are an extension of the Section's background fill color, they can only be viewed if the Sections above or below have different fill colors applied. (i.e., if the fill color of an adjoining Section is the same, the decoration won't be distinguishable  from the general fill color behind the two Sections.)

Once you've added one of these Sections to your page, there are a lot of design options you can take advantage of.

Here are several lessons to get you started.

Changing the Top and Bottom Decorations on a Section

This lesson starts with a Decorative Heading section that was added to the Page from the Add Your First Section options on a blank page.

Any Section on a Flow page can have top and/or bottom decorations, so you can also use these steps to add top and bottom decorations on any section. (Most sections added to a Flow page have the top and bottom decorations turned off/set to none.)

Changing the Background Fill Color on a Section

This lesson starts with a Decorative Heading section that was added to the Page from the Add Your First Section options on a blank page.

You can set a background fill color on any Section on a Flow page using these same steps.

Adding Additional Elements to a Group

If you've added one of the decorative sections to your Flow page, you can customize its content by adding more elements to it.

You can do this by adding additional elements to the Group containing the Section's default element.

This lesson uses a Section that has a background image rather than a fill color and top and bottom decorations, but the steps are the same when working with a section with decorations.
